Florida serial burglar arrested 10 times in 2021 is back in custody after serving ‘short sentence’: police

A suspect who Florida police say served a ‘short sentence’ after being arrested 10 times last year for burglaries, has been arrested again for allegedly breaking into properties occupied by sleeping tourists in the Orlando area.

Corionn Jones-Bentley, 29, now faces multiple charges after police began investigating a burglary trend that targeted at least 9 homes in 2022, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said.

“When someone walks into your residence and violates your privacy and potentially stands over your child – at what point does that guy have to go to jail for 10, 15 years?” Sheriff Marcos Lopez asked reporters on Monday, after Jones-Bentley was arrested the day before. β€œHe basically committed 10 burglaries in total and it was all pleaded no contest, pleaded no contest, state dismissed, pleaded no contest, state dismissed.”

“This is certainly not the first time he’s been in trouble for burglary. In 2021, Mr. Jones-Bentley was arrested 10 times for burglary at residences,” Lopez added. “These arrests were scattered throughout the year. And in 2022 he resumed burglary after serving a brief sentence for his 2021 burglaries.”

The sheriff’s office said that during the recent spate of reported burglaries, Jones-Bentley “entered residences and stole money while the occupants slept inside.”

“In one specific incident, a father found the suspect in and near his children’s bedroom,” police said in a statement. “The suspect was confronted and beat the father before fleeing.”

Jones-Bentley was arrested after investigators spotted him parking his car in a dark part of a road on Sunday before getting out of his vehicle and walking to “occupied rental properties used for holidaymakers on Sticks Street,” according to police.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office said Jones-Bentley was arrested during an investigation into a burglary pattern in which "a black man would enter the residences and steal money while the occupants slept inside."

“Jones-Bentley then entered several residences through the screened back porch and inside the houses where the occupants were sleeping inside,” the sheriff’s office added. He was eventually caught after punching a detective and fleeing on foot, police said.
