Florida governor says flags will be flown halfway for Rush Limbaugh

In honor of a conservative radio host Rush LimbaughRepublican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday that he would order Florida flags to be hoisted halfway when Limbaugh’s body is laid to rest.

Limbaugh, a Florida resident, died of lung cancer on Wednesday. DeSantis called him a friend.

It is not known when the flags will be lowered as Limbaugh’s funeral plans have yet to be announced. “When there are things of this magnitude, once the burial date for Rush is announced, we will reduce the flags to half the staff,” DeSantis said at a press conference in County of Palm Beach.

Limbaugh’s death has been widely mourned by Conservatives, although critics have pointed to past comments by him that they allege being bigoted and blatantly racist.

The governor previously ordered the flags to be half-used to honor the deaths of law enforcement officials killed on duty, Navy members killed in a mass shooting in Pensacola and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg , among others.
