Flight diverted to Stewart International Airport due to high winds; 7 transported to hospital

A United Airlines flight was diverted to New York’s Stewart International Airport on Friday and seven people were sent to the hospital after a plane experienced severe turbulence, according to New Windsor EMS.

They say the United Airlines flight was making an approach to Newark from Tel Aviv when it encountered strong winds around 6:30 p.m.

About 320 people were on board the flight and seven people were transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall for observation, according to New Windsor EMS.

New Windsor EMS says 15 people were treated on scene for health issues, including motion sickness and other minor medical issues.

They say several people complained of nausea, and some reported having chest pains due to the turbulence, but no serious injuries were reported.

United Airlines Flight 85 landed safely at New York’s Stewart International Airport around 6:45 p.m. local time on Friday, March 29, after the crew reported a passenger medical emergency.
