Flat racing betting tips: Big odds for Lincoln Handicap, Mile Stakes and Spring Mile Handicap as hosts Doncaster return to the turf

Flat racing is back on grass this weekend and Doncaster kicks off in spectacular fashion with Class 1 and 2 handicaps on Saturday.

The all weather continues throughout, but grass racing hasn’t been seen in a few months and things will likely be good or good to mild with the dry weather across the country.

Flat racing is back with a flurry of top and horse racing which also saw some Group 1 action.

Frankie Dettori will be at Meydan on Saturday for the Dubai World Cup with Tom Marquand and William Buick having huge rides for the £5.3m winner’s prize.

Cammidge Trophy Stakes Betting Tip & Overview

Ryan Moore aboard Cammidge Trophy Stakes favorite Garrus

There’s a lot to love about this Antony Brittain-trained gelding.

Fairly consistent in all weathers and was placing often this season as well as two quick wins in the fall.

He’s come close enough since to add to those wins, finishing second to Newcastle in January and Lingfield (in a Class 1) by a neck at One Night Stand.

Cam Hardie will be riding once again and clearly knows this horse well.

He also offers the most value in this race as the main underdog, with Garrus, Diligent Harry and Bielsa leading the bets.

Hasn’t won at this distance since November 2020, but holds strong claims of a place if he relishes the return on good ground and turf.

Spring Mile Handicap Betting Tip and Overview

Stellar Shield at 13/2

This is one of the most open 2 classes of the day with the favorite still at 3/1.

Star Shield gets more attention than most in this area for two main reasons.

Ridden by Jason Watson, the 7-year-old has already won this course, something the rest of the field has yet to achieve at the start of his career.

But it also means there’s no question mark that the horse trained by David O’Meara likes the style of track that is Doncaster, a left-handed gallop course.

Another reason to potentially support this horse is the form over the distance and is only up 4 pounds since the last grass race.

He might also prefer the slight cut in the ground, with the terrain still being called good to soft.

Chindit at 8/11

The horse trained by Richard Hannon, Chindit, is the clear favorite for this class 1 event and seems to be the choice of a field of four riders.

Rossa Ryan is booked to ride and he’s had a lot going for him, with a 36% win rate over the past 14 days.

The jockey has won five of his 14 races in that span and is certainly making it easy to back up this favourite.

He like many others today, who don’t like off-roading, hasn’t raced since October and finished third last time out in a Group 2 handicap at Newmarket on 7f.

It should be an ideal run for the colt, who has taken the ratings by storm by landing a hat-trick in 2020, including on his debut.

Since then he has come up against top-tier opponents in top-level races and should find this field easier to beat.

Lincoln Handicap Betting Tip and Overview

Ametist at 16/1

Tom Marquand aboard Ametist at Newmarket in June set to win by a nose

The Cheveley Park Stud colors have been in fine form of late and dominated at the Cheltenham Festival to win the Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase and Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Ryan is also ready to ride for the horse trained by William Haggas which is lightly raced.

He won a Class 2 in June last year by 3/4 length against No Nonsense at Newmarket over seven furlongs and has weighed just 4lbs since that win after finishing on the pitch.

His last race on 1m1f in September was a big step in the right direction, finishing third in a field of 26 riders.

Some horses prefer a race to re-establish themselves after a long break, but Ametist also won either side of a 314 day break previously and is therefore of great value in this field of great racers with excellent odds of 16 /1.
