The attack on a CRS was notably filmed by an independent journalist, while the prefecture deplores 27 injured during this demonstration which brought together 3,000 people in the Rhône metropolis.

The May Day demonstration in Lyon, where 3,000 people marched in the rain according to the prefecture, gave rise to a brief clash between a small group of “black blocs” and the police. The prefecture reported five arrests, and 27 wounded among the police and gendarmes mobilized.

“While a hostile group of 200 people leading the procession used mortars against the police, the police intervened to disperse the group and allow the demonstration to resume its course”, explained the prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on social networks.

An independent journalist notably filmed a CRS pushed in the back during an intervention, the police officer falling heavily as the perpetrator fled, while other CRS surrounded their colleague who fell to the ground.

Other videos show muscular interventions by the police, and the use of tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

Across France, the processions gathered on May 1 more than 170,000 demonstrators according to the CGT (including 25,000 in Paris), while the Ministry of the Interior reports 106,650 participants (including 17,000 in the capital). In total, 56 people were arrested, including 46 in Paris, said the ministry of Place Beauvau.
