Fi’s smart collar adds sleep tracking for dogs – TechCrunch

Conventional wisdom is that we should let sleep lie. But no one is saying that you are prohibited from following them while they are doing it. New York-based smart collar maker Fi announced today that it is adding sleep to the device’s watchlist.

The added feature uses the collar’s built-in motion detection to monitor your best friend’s sleep during the day and night (and will almost certainly leave you jealous of how often your eyes are closed).

The information is presented on a timeline that should sound familiar to anyone who has used the human equivalent. It also offers a live recording to see what the dog is doing during the day while you’re at work (assuming you return to the office one day).

The goal here is to offer shareable metrics on your pet that could indicate underlying health issues, whether it’s too much, not enough sleep, or frequent trips to the water bowl in the morning. middle of the night. Sudden changes also present potential red flags for the dog’s health.

“We are excited to move to holistic health monitoring that empowers dog parents to take the best possible care of their pets,” Founder and CEO Jonathan Bensamoun said in a statement. “If your dog is tired he can’t tell you, so Fi will.” Fi can answer critical questions such as “Is my pet sleeping well?” Or “Have his activity levels declined lately?” Long before more serious problems have time to develop.

Fi raised $ 30 million in February and is working to expand its reach in the United States, including a recent distribution deal with online pet supplies mega-seller, Chewy.
