First they call the girl on set, then…
Adah Sharma, who is currently enjoying the success of her film The Kerala Story, shared her thoughts on gender discrimination in the film industry. The actress who has worked in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu industries, shared that she does not like working in such an environment where people are discriminated against because of their gender.
In a chat with Siddharth Kanan, Adah Sharma shared that no matter what industry you work in, things go well if you have a good director. The actress said, “I worked with people from the north and the south, who were very amazing and not amazing too. I realized that’s the person. If your director is nice, whatever the language, everything goes very well. But if your manager isn’t very nice, and not very nice, that’s just not a good thing.
She added: “I have encountered the good, the bad and the ugly in all places. I find it very strange that they call the girl on set first and then say, ‘ok, wait.’ When they see, ‘ok. she’s there”, then they call the actor’s manager and tell him to come on set and the girl is already there. I feel gender discrimination, I don’t like working in an environment like this- there.
Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story was released on May 5 and stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idwani and Sonia Balani. Despite bans and backlash, the film managed to collect Rs 264.4 crore worldwide. The performances of the actors are appreciated all over the world. The film suffered a backlash even before its release as its trailer stated that “32,000 girls have been converted to Islam by ISIS in Kerala”. However, the statement was later changed.
Meanwhile, Adah Sharma recently revealed that she recently stated that she will be filming for Commando 4 next. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actress said, “I’m doing Commando with him (Vipul Shah), where I play Bhavana Reddy again. So for the action fans, it’s still there. There will be more action and more comedy… this role remains as it is in Commando.
