According to her press secretary, Michael LaRosa, First Lady Jill Biden is recovering from a successful procedure to “clear the debris” from a puncture injury to her left foot.

Biden reportedly stepped on an object on a beach in Hawaii last weekend before two official events there. She was in Hawaii after attending the start of the Tokyo Olympics.

According to the White House, President Biden joined her Thursday for the procedure at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“The wound is now clean, free from infection and is expected to heal well,” LaRosa said.

It is still unclear what caused Biden’s injury, after an examination by medical staff, he added.
