HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – State health officials have confirmed the first deaths related to the flu and RSV.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health said one flu death occurred in an adult aged 80 to 90 in Middlesex County. The RSV deaths occurred in an adult of the same age in New Haven County and another person in their 60s.
DPH officials have scheduled a news conference to discuss respiratory illnesses Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
No further patient details will be released, according to DPH.
The department also said that in October, 67 deaths associated with COVID-19 were reported among Connecticut residents. Historically, in Connecticut, most deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in people aged 55 and older.
“This is a tragic reminder that the 2023-24 respiratory viral illness season is already active,” said DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani, MD. “As the holidays approach, I strongly encourage all Connecticut residents to ensure they are up to date on their seasonal vaccinations, especially older adults and those with multiple health conditions.”
