First Deadlock Images Reveal Gameplay Mockup Using Assets From Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, and More

First test footage of what appears to be Valve’s recently announced multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) shooter Deadlock has surfaced online.

The footage was shared by an X/Twitter user, a content creator and a leaker @gabefollowerwho claims that the game comes from a Valve developer known as Yoshi. It’s a simplified version of the Deadlock we know today, with textureless buildings, concrete floors, and triangular pine trees. As Gabe Follower points out, this early version also uses assets from a few other Valve titles. Half-Life Antlions, for example, can be seen in the role of a minion, while the game also uses assets from titles like Left 4 Dead and Dota.

It’s far from impressive, but it’s still an interesting glimpse into a game we still know so little about. It’s unclear exactly when the footage was captured, but you can see what was shared below.

Valve Correctly Revealed Deadlock Last week, the Half-Life and Portal developer announced that the game would be its first new IP in years. It’s a 6v6 third-person shooter that’s still in its early stages, and the lead-up to its announcement has been anything but ordinary. The Half-Life and Portal developer has been allowing a select group of players to play the game over the past few weeks, asking those who do to refrain from sharing any content or opinions about their experience. This has caused confusion for those who weren’t on the restricted list, as testers have still managed to leak some gameplay footage on social media. Meanwhile, PC stats site Steam Database revealed A growing number of players are flocking to Deadlock in secret until August, with players starting to join earlier this month and peaking at 44,512 users just days before Valve pulled the curtain.

Deadlock has yet to be announced for any platforms, but it is currently playable on PC for testers. No release date has been announced yet. While Valve is keeping its head down to continue development, you can read some other early leaks who teased some which would eventually be revealed as Deadlock.
