Firefighters rescue dog trapped between two concrete walls

Cincinnati firefighters rescued a dog trapped between two concrete walls on Sunday. The dog, Gertie, had been missing for five days.

The Cincinnati Fire Department posted a video on Facebook showing firefighter Jenny Adkins using a hammer to smash a cinder block wall. “There were posters missing in Northside for five days in hopes that someone would find Gertie,” the caption said. “Today an owner heard a dog cry behind the garage wall and called us to check on it.”

When the responders arrived at the house, they realized that a dog had fallen into a crevasse and was trapped between the two walls. Since there was no way to get the dog out of the crevice, the team had to knock down the wall using saws and a hammer.

In about 10 minutes, firefighters managed to get inside the wall and Adkins pulled the dog out, reports CBS affiliate WKRC. “This race ended with a happy reunion and a job well done by Truck 20,” the post read.

CBS News has contacted the Cincinnati Fire Department for more information and is awaiting a response.
