Contra Costa Health issued a public health advisory early Sunday morning due to a fire at the Martinez Renewable Fuels Refinery in Marathon.
On social media, the Health Department said a hazardous materials team was “responding to reports of a fire” at the refinery at 1:34 a.m. and that an advisory had been issued for Martinez , Pacheco, Concord and Clyde.
The Health Ministry said the fire could be visible from surrounding communities. Within an hour, the advisory was lifted and the Department of Health later declared the fire “under control.”
The incident was classified by Contra Costa Health as a Level 1 alert, meaning it was an event “longer than 20 minutes or involving odors.”
