On Friday’s show of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said the way federal health officials have handled the coronavirus “seems politicized.” Looks like we have our science and whoever else… we just pretend they’re quacks,” even if it’s other doctors.
After reading a quote from New York Times Lead writer David Leonhardt on misconceptions about how expert opinion and science works, Maher said, “And that’s sort of the case that I’ve made, like, whose science ? Like, of course, the chip in the vaccine is crazy, but the two top FDA vaccine experts quit. Because they said, you’re not following what we’ve found out about boosters, you’re recommending them, and we’ve told you not to. Sounds politicized. It seems we have our science and anyone else can just — we just pretend they’re a quack. And they are not charlatans. They are other doctors.
Leonhardt replied, “Science is difficult.”
Maher added: “Especially medical science, we don’t know anything.”
Leonhardt added that debate is a key part of science and that there are issues around coronavirus politics that are not issues of science, but are really issues of trade-offs and values.
