Fatal Lexington crash started with unconscious driver, police say

An unconscious driver regained consciousness, fled an officer, crashed with two other vehicles in a Lexington area and died, police said on Wednesday.

The three-vehicle wreckage occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Eastland Parkway with Gayle Drive near Winchester Road.

One of the vehicles was badly damaged. The coroner was there.

Police sergeant. Donnell Gordon said the driver, whose name has not been released, was spotted on New Circle Road and appeared to be passed out. When an officer tried to get to the car, the driver fled.

The driver turned on Gayle and ran the stop sign to Gayle and Eastland, Gordon said. The other two vehicles involved were traveling in opposite directions on Eastland Parkway before the accident.

One of the other drivers was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Gordon said.
