Bryson DeChambeau has been the subject of “Brooksy” taunts at several events this season on the PGA Tour

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has warned that fans who taunt Bryson DeChambeau with “Brooksy” vocals risk being excluded from tournaments in the future.

Monahan announced ahead of the season-end circuit championship that changes need to be made to the fan conduct policy for attending tournaments, with harassing or disruptive behavior and comments that are no longer tolerated at events.

The PGA Tour insists the policy change was delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak – which started in 2020 – and not in response to abuse targeting a particular player, with Monahan believing the behavior will against “the civility and respect which are the hallmarks of the game”.

“We have to be intentional about our expectations of fan behavior and I think our fan code of conduct does that,” Monahan said. “By coming to a PGA Tour event, you must contribute to a welcoming and safe environment by refraining from and reporting any unsafe, disruptive or harassing behavior.

When asked if yelling ‘Brooksy’ at DeChambeau would constitute harassment, Monahan added, ‘Yes, and the reason I say yes is the barometer we all use is the word respect, and for me, when you hear “Brooksy” screaming or you hear a shouted expression, the question is, is that respectful or disrespectful?

“It’s been going on for a long time. To me at this point it’s disrespectful, and it’s (the) kind of behavior we’re not going to tolerate in the future.”
