Fans roast Conor McGregor for calling himself an ‘underrated athlete’

Fans on social media have been ruthlessly following Conor McGregor after the former UFC two-division champion called himself an “underrated athlete”.

McGregor recently posted a photo of himself on Twitter. In the post, he describes himself as an underrated athlete, although many would describe him as the opposite.

Check out Conor McGregor’s tweet below:

However, most observers think McGregor is pretty overrated, considering he’s still the most popular fighter in the UFC despite his recent string of poor performances. That being the case, MMA fans on Twitter didn’t take too kindly to McGregor’s proclamation.

A few people responded to the Irishman’s tweet, explaining why he can’t call himself underrated. They pointed out that McGregor’s hype, especially after losing three of his last four fights, disqualifies him from being considered underrated.

Meanwhile, another Twitter user said that even if it was true, McGregor should let others give him compliments instead of congratulating himself.

@TheNotoriousMMA To be honest, I don’t remember a time when you were underestimated, but I do remember a time when you were overrated. You had a great career and made more money than everyone else, I don’t see why you can give up and just enjoy the money and the time with your family.

@TheNotoriousMMA Underestimated? The guy who never defended a title once? The guy who’s 1-4 his last 5 fights, without even finishing most of them? 😂 😂

@TheNotoriousMMA In fact, a little overrated, the last person you fought beat you twice and you probably won’t fight again.

@TheNotoriousMMA Man, you can’t call yourself the underrated athlete. If so, someone else should say so lol.

Meanwhile, a few Twitter users agreed that McGregor would be better off pursuing a career in acting or modeling. The comments were apparent jabs at McGregor’s involvement in the remake of the classic 80s action flick Relay.

@TheNotoriousMMA Overinflated ego. The washed-out MMA fighter wants to get into the movies.

@TheNotoriousMMA You’re much better at posing for pictures than fighting. At least in your modeling career, you won’t have to deal with guys dominating you when you come to your senses.

Others think McGregor was delusional at this point. Meanwhile, a few commentators reminded him that he really needed a win to get his fighting career back on track.

@TheNotoriousMMA Normal Be realistic, Guy, you lost the whole last fight. ,how my advice. And it’s the good life man whiskey!

@TheNotoriousMMA Stfu ur still a trash human being. I don’t care how good an athlete or a fighter is. Selfish POV.

@TheNotoriousMMA Need to bring Ido Portal and Artem Lobov back to get you back in the win column

Kamaru Usman thinks Conor McGregor’s days as champion are over

Kamaru Usman, the pound-for-pound king of the UFC, is of the opinion that Conor McGregor will never hold a UFC title again.

McGregor is apparently set to return to the octagon based on his social media posts. However, the UFC welterweight champion is of the opinion that the Irishman will never regain the belt as he no longer has the will to work hard.

Appearing in an episode of I am an athlete podcast, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ said:

“He didn’t necessarily finish, but he finished as a champion. When I fight guys, I study their hearts. When I watch fights, I look at their hearts, and for me, he finished. He ended, because I don’t know if the goal was to have money.”
