Families of mass shooting victims testify before Congress as lawmakers debate legislation

William Brangham:

Uvalde’s parents, Kimberly and Felix Rubio, recalled their last morning with their daughter, Lexi. They too have advocated for a change in gun laws.

Kimberly Rubio, mother of a shooting victim: Today we’re standing up for Lexi. And, like his voice, we demand action.

We demand a ban on assault rifles and large capacity magazines. We understand that for some reason, for some people, for people who have money, for people who fund political campaigns, guns are more important than children.

So right now we are asking for progress. We are looking to raise the purchase age for these guns from 18 to 21. We seek red flag laws, stricter background checks. We also want to repeal liability immunity for firearms manufacturers.
