Falkville man convicted of assaulting 12-year-old parent

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Falkville man was sentenced this week for assaulting his 12-year-old relative, according to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office (DA).

Officials say Cody Zink, 24, of Falkville, was found guilty of first-degree sexual abuse. The prosecutor’s office said Zink sexually assaulted the underage parent at the child’s home in Falkville while babysitting.

Zink will remain in Morgan County Jail and face up to 10 years in prison for the offense.

“We are very pleased to have a conviction in a case that has experienced numerous delays primarily due to COVID,” Assistant District Attorney Stacy Adams said. “The young victim in this case has long been waiting to tell her story and she has done so with great thoroughness, conviction and courage.”

“His testimony was compelling,” Adams continued. “These cases are always an emotionally difficult experience for a jury, and I am so grateful for the hard work these 12 citizens put into the case.”

Officials say Zink will be sentenced in June.
