abio Vieira believes he is starting to find his feet at Arsenal as he prepares for another Carabao Cup start tonight against Brighton.
Vieira joined Arsenal in the summer from Porto, arriving in a deal that could potentially be worth £34m, and he explained the move was a “no-brainer”.
The midfielder has shown flashes of brilliance so far, scoring twice, with six of his seven Europa League starts.
The 22-year-old is due to resume tonight, however, as hosts of Arsenal Brighton and he believes he is starting to settle in at the Emirates Stadium.
“It’s of course a process,” Vieira said. “I am slowly integrating into a new country, a new culture, a different time. Everything is going well – we are currently the first [in the Premier League] and we are having a great season so far and we have to keep working the same way.
“It’s (Arsenal) a club that I identify with – it’s one of the biggest clubs in England and everyone knows that. There have always been world-class players who have played for Arsenal. , and when I saw the project – and how I would fit into the project – it was a no-brainer to join Arsenal.”
Vieira is determined to succeed at Arsenal and he has revealed his biggest inspirations are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“The two biggest influences for me are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” he said. “Ronaldo, not because he’s Portuguese, but he’s really someone who really inspires others with his work ethic, how he had to leave his family and his comfort zone to sign for Sporting, and for that he builds the career he built inspires everyone.
“Messi is more related to my style of play. I’m like Messi and I appreciate the way he plays. I met Ronaldo. I met him with the [Portugal] the national team because we would both be in the gym, and again in our game at Manchester United. He would always provide support and advice to young players.
