The 2022/23 Premier League season is barely a day old and we already have enough drama to fill a season although goals have been slow in coming so far. That includes St James Park in a clash between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, but that was until Fabian Schar stepped in.
After a wary first half completely dominated by Newcastle United, the Magpies struggled to break the deadlock with Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest looking strong and tall. Somehow, despite facing nearly 14 shots in the first half, Steve Cooper’s side did well to keep Eddie Howe’s side at bay with Dean Henderson making not one or two but six impressive saves.

But less than thirteen minutes into the second half and after Newcastle cult hero Allan Saint-Maximin missed a glorious scoring chance, Fabian Schar stepped up. The Swiss international collected the ball on the far right, moved forward with great confidence and absolutely unleashed a thunderbolt from no less than 25 yards out. This left Dean Henderson with no chance to save things, especially as the ball deflected, moved and skidded through the sky and into the net.
For a moment St James Park were stunned, then as Schar sprinted towards the fans in celebration, they exploded in joy and celebration after barely realizing what their centre-back, who scored just ten goals in championship before this one. He can definitely hit them..

Fabian Schar only scores worlds!!
#NUFC 1-0 #NFFC
Absolute howler of Schar – &, given their dominance, #NUFC needed a moment of inspiration like this.
He picks it up, 35 yards out, steps just outside the right side of the area and lets fly.
Almost a replica of his Burnley goal a few years ago.#NEWNOT— Chris Waugh (@ChrisDHWaugh) August 6, 2022
Need something special? You know who to call…
This game needed something special. And Schar just served it. #nufc

Has the goal of the season already been decided?
Oh. My. Word. Candidate for the goal of the season. Fingers in the nose.
Schar just said ‘enough, I’ll score’. #THUNDERBASTARD #NUFC— Danny Olsen (@SoloDanny0) August 6, 2022
