The Bahrain Grand Prix which opened the 2021 Formula 1 season was the most watched race of all time Sky Sports, it can be revealed.

The Bahrain GP was watched by 1.98 million viewers on average, peaking at 2.23 million, as viewers tuned in to watch Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen fight for the top step from the podium in an exciting duel.

Those numbers place the race as the highest race ever seen on Sky, beating previous races that even aired simultaneously on Sky One and becoming the first race to peak above 2m in viewers.

These record numbers far exceed last year’s Bahrain GP (1.39m) in November by + 42% as well as the opening race of the 2020 season in Austria (1.51m) by + 31%. .

Qualifying audience figures (averaging 1.14m with a peak of 1.34m) also recorded record audience figures, with the Bahrain GP becoming the first-ever qualifying session with an average audience over of 1 m, as well as the highest average peak ever recorded.
