Exxon subpoenaed in California probe of plastics makers

California Attorney General Investigating Exxon Mobil Corp. and other fossil fuel and petrochemical companies, accusing them of misleading the public about the impact of plastic pollution.

Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the investigation Thursday. He said his office issued a subpoena to Exxon seeking information about what he called an “aggressive campaign to mislead the public, perpetuating the myth that recycling can solve the plastics crisis.” Mr. Bonta, a Democrat, did not specify which other companies his office is investigating.
