Evanston Police Investigate After Man Was Found Shot In Park – NBC Chicago

Police in suburban Evanston asked residents to stay indoors for several hours on Thursday night after a man was fatally shot near a park after a confrontation with several other people.

Authorities say police were called to the 2100 block of North McCormick Boulevard around 9:06 p.m. to a report of gunshots.

When officers arrived they found a man lying on the ground near Eggleston Park, located along the North Shore Channel.

The man had been shot several times and was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation indicated that the man had been involved in a confrontation with several other individuals, and shots were eventually fired.

The suspects fled on foot.

Police said that while there was no “active shooter” situation, they still advised residents to stay indoors for several hours while the search for suspects began.

McCormick Boulevard will remain closed between Golf Road and Bridge Street for several hours, police say, and residents are asked to avoid the area.

Residents who observe suspicious behavior are asked to call the police immediately.
