Roma took the first leg advantage after fighting back to beat Ajax 2-1 in Amsterdam in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Ajax took a 39th-minute lead thanks to Davy Klaassen, but missed a great opportunity to double their advantage when captain Dusan Tadic saw his 53rd-minute penalty saved by Pau Lopez.

It was a turning point at the Johan Cruyff ArenA as Roma equalized four minutes later on Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free kick before Roger Ibanez – who fouled Tadic to concede the penalty – snatched a stunning winner in the 87th minute .

The only away side that didn’t win on Thursday night was Slavia Prague, but they still managed to win a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
