Manchester City have announced that defender Esme Morgan broke his leg against Tottenham last Sunday.
The 20-year-old was carried on a stretcher after being injured in a collision with Ashleigh Neville at the start of City’s 2-1 loss to Spurs at Academy Stadium.
The Football Association confirmed on Monday that Morgan had withdrawn from the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and Luxembourg.
And on Wednesday, City said in a statement on their official website that they were “slated for a marginal fate after sustaining a fractured lower leg” in Sunday’s game.
The statement added: “The defender will soon undergo surgery on her right leg before starting a period of rehabilitation with the club.
“Everyone at City wishes Esme the best in her recovery and will give her all the support she needs.”
