Enzo Fernandez’s first words as Chelsea FC player acknowledges whopping £106m price tag

Chelsea’s new signing Enzo Fernandez has thanked the Blues hierarchy for splashing the cash to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez was finally confirmed on deadline day as a signing for Chelsea on January 8 after a month-long negotiation process with Benfica which failed twice before a deal was reached.
Fernandez has become the most expensive signing British football has ever seen, costing £106.8million despite his young age of 22 and relative lack of appearances in European football.
The World Cup winner’s decision was finally confirmed by Chelsea on Wednesday night, and Fernandez was quick to thank Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali for bringing him to England.
He said: “I am grateful to Chelsea and their owners for doing everything they could to have me part of this project.
“I am happy and excited to join Pride of London, to play in the best league in the world and to compete for the biggest trophies. I look forward to playing in front of our fans and helping my teammates on and off the pitch.
Fernandez is in contention to make his Chelsea debut in Friday night’s derby with Fulham.
