England scrum-half Willi Heinz to move to Worcester next season

Worcester have announced the signing of England international scrum-half Willi Heinz from Gallagher Premiership rivals Gloucester for next season.

The 34-year-old, who joined Cherries and Whites in 2015, won 13 caps and was a member of the England 2019 World Cup squad, although he missed the final against the South Africa due to a hamstring injury.

“Willi is a very valuable addition to our squad,” said Worcester head coach Jonathan Thomas.

“He’s an international player – and has been recently – which is a huge thing for the club.”

Heinz, who will be joined in Worcester next quarter by Scotland international wing Duhan Van Der Merwe, said: “I always feel like I have a lot to give in my career and I want to be a part of what is a exciting journey. the club is launching. “

Heinz made 90 appearances for Gloucester and also served as club captain.

Gloucester head coach George Skivington said: “Willi has been a great player for the club. He is the consummate professional, and we know he will be determined to end his time at Kingsholm on a high note.

“We respect his decision to move to new pastures, and when the time comes, we will wish him the best for his new challenge.

“We are fortunate to have several exciting young scrum halves on the squad, and we are sure they will play a big part in our success in the seasons to come.”

Meanwhile, Gloucester has decided to extend Australian flanker Jordy Reid’s stay at Kingsholm after impressing in the 15 appearances he has made for the club since joining Ealing Trailfinders.

Skivington said: “We are really happy that Jordy has extended his stay with us. He has always shown a high level of performance for us from the day he arrived and has integrated into Premiership rugby seamlessly.

“He’s an explosive presence on the pitch, both with his powerful run with the ball in hand, but also his robust defense.”
