England head to 2022 World Cup final after booking Senegal Round of 16 berth

England successfully sailed through the World Cup group stage and now their path to eventual World Cup glory in Qatar is clearer.
A landslide victory over Iran was followed by a 0-0 draw with the United States, but Marcus Rashford inspired a 3-0 win over Wales to secure top spot in Group B and a round of 16 clash against second-placed Senegal in Group A.
The Three Lions will be backed to get the better of a Sadio Mane-less Senegal, setting up a quarter-final against either the Group D winners or the Group C runners-up. It’s expected to be defending champions France. who are without Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema but with Kylian Mbappe.
Pass by and the hype train will have well and truly left the station, England in the semi-finals having knocked out one of the pre-tournament favourites. It would potentially be Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal or a hugely efficient Spanish side.
England’s win in that match would send them to the World Cup final for the first time since 1966. There they could face Brazil, looking to put a sixth star on their shirts, for the chance to end to the long wait for a major trophy.
