England fans urged to applaud players who kneel down against Croatia to ‘drown out the boos’ – Kick It Out and FSA | Football news

Kick It Out and the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) called on England fans to stifle potential boos at Wembley this Sunday by applauding their players for kneeling.

England face Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener on Sunday, with Gareth Southgate’s side preparing to kneel amid taunts from some fans in the warm-up matches against Austria and Romania.

Tony Burnett, CEO of Kick It Out, said: “Gareth Southgate and the England players have made their position clear – they take the knee as an anti-discrimination gesture, it is in no way linked to any political organization.

“All of us England fans, myself included, want to see England succeed at the Euro, so we ask the fans of the games to cover up the applause and show the players that we are behind them.”
