Fans have phoned talkSPORT to ask for Gareth Southgate to be SACKED after England’s disappointing clash against Hungary on Tuesday night.
The Three Lions boss, who led the team to the World Cup semi-finals and the European Championship final, did not respond to his criticism in a 1-1 draw, this which means they cannot afford to fall back in their quest to qualify for Qatar 2022.

Southgate experimented with his team at Wembley, opting for a more attacking lineup, but that didn’t quite work out in what was a rambling performance from the hosts.
The result against Hungary means England have to wait until the next international break to qualify for the 2022 World Cup – needing four points from their last two games – and has seen fans and pundits criticize the squad and the boss, with talkSPORT inundated with calls.
A Sports Bar listener said “Harry Kane’s head is elsewhere” after the England captain was one of several below-par performance on Tuesday night.
Kane and Southgate were the center of most of the anger following the disappointing exit, with calls increasing to replace the manager.
One fan even went so far as to say he wanted England to lose to San Marino in their next World Cup qualifying game, if that meant Southgate would be sacked and replaced by the Leicester boss, Brendan Rodgers.
He told talkSPORT: “My concern is that Southgate has a decent number two out there, right? Steve Holland, he’s won trophies everywhere.
“He did it with [Antonio] Conte, he did it with all these different Chelsea boys.
“If it doesn’t work with Southgate and it doesn’t work with Steve Holland, then it must be the players because Steve Holland is a decent coach. [Southgate] has no idea what he’s doing.
“I hope we lose to San Marino because that’s what we need to get rid of Southgate.”
He added, “Bring in Brendan Rodgers, do it now.”
Another caller insisted England needed a manager who would make the most of the current crop of players – insisting Brighton head coach Graham Potter was that man.
He said, “It’s a ‘Golden Generation’, isn’t it? And we need a manager who is going to get the most out of not just the players, but the team.
“It’s just embarrassing.
“It’s time for him [Southgate] go now, take it out.
And when asked who he wanted to replace the boss of the Three Lions, he replied, “Graham Potter. “
Another fan was taken aback by Kane’s performance, saying the Tottenham forward looked like a completely different player than one who is usually so reliable in front of goal in a Three Lions shirt.
The 28-year-old is just 12 goals off Wayne Rooney’s record-breaking goals in England, but didn’t look close to adding to his tally against Hungary.
Kane has struggled for form since the start of the season, even since his failed transfer to Man City as the forward has still not scored in the Premier League this season.
But Kane wasn’t the only English star who failed to impress on Tuesday night,
“I sincerely think [Jack] Grealish wasn’t good enough Luke Shaw wasn’t good enough Mason Mount just looked lost to me, ”said another caller.
“I really don’t think there was a plan B.
“I think Southgate went over there hoping to win this comfortably. Grealish came out frustrated because he had been replaced but, second, because he was just poor.
“And Harry Kane seemed to be gone. He didn’t look like the Harry Kane we know and love at the Euro.
“I’m not a Tottenham fan but he looks the same as Tottenham – his head is elsewhere.”
