llie Robinson suffered another form setback today when he was ruled out of a tour match against New Zealand due to a stiff back.
Robinson’s year was severely disrupted by injury. He has missed four of England’s five Tests in 2022 so far and stopped in the one he played, the last Ashes rubber in Hobart.
He was not considered ready for the first two Tests against New Zealand, starting next week, due to a difficult start to the summer in which dental problems and a lack of fitness meant that he only played two league games for Sussex.
He played for Sussex against New Zealand last week and had another chance to prove his fitness in this game. However, he felt stiffness in his back during the warm-up and was taken off as a precaution, with Middlesex’s Ethan Bamber replacing him.
Robinson was to be one of the team’s two Test players, with Dom Sibley managing the team.
