ENG versus WI | I still have the hunger and the passion to play, says James Anderson

James Anderson said he still had the hunger and passion to play after being dropped for the Test series against the West Indies with Stuart Broad. Anderson also revealed that he was informed of the decision in just a five-minute call and that there was a lack of clarity in communication.

England are set to visit the West Indies for three Tests from March 8. England’s squad for the series was announced and it involved surprise exclusions of two senior bowlers in the form of James Anderson and wide stuart for the lights. The omission of these two veteran players came as a shock to many. Reflecting on his absence from the squad, James Anderson said he still had the hunger and passion to play for the national team.

“I pray it’s not the end. I still have a chance to dig deep. I still have a lot to offer – I still have the hunger and the passion to play. It was a shock and a disappointment to get that call but after processing it it’s important that I try to focus on the things that I can control and that shows people what I can do with the ball in my hand,” Anderson said on the Tailenders podcast, as reported by ICC.

“There will probably be a new director of cricket and a new head coach, so I just hope that whatever decision is made, it will be discussed as it should be. Another frustration for me is that he does not was just a five-minute phone call – that doesn’t really tell you much.

Anderson has 640 wickets from 169 Test matches while Broad picked 537 wickets from 152 Test matches. Captain of England Joe Root earlier assured that it is not the end for the two bowlers.

“I’ve spoken to Stuart and Jimmy and they’re obviously disappointed, angry, and Stuart in particular has expressed that publicly. And you’d expect that. I have enormous respect for both of them. At no time – it’s been very clear – no one is saying this is the end for them,” Root said.
