Encouraging hate speech ‘is not good for our society’

In an interview published on Thursday’s edition of the ‘Pod Save America’ podcast, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain reacted to changes Elon Musk has made to Twitter, including reinstating several accounts suspended by stating that “anything that encourages hate speech is bad” and “it’s not good for our society, it’s not good for speech. I don’t think it’s good for Twitter. But Musk will run the platform however he sees fit.

Co-host Jon Favreau asked, “What do you think of the changes the new owner has made to the platform, especially the reinstatement of Trump, Kanye West, and I guess all the accounts that haven’t breached a law that have already been suspended?”

Klain replied, “I will say that I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about Twitter itself and how Elon Musk runs Twitter. I kind of have my hands full here. But look, I think anything that encourages hate speech is bad, and I don’t think it is – it’s obviously not good for our society, it’s not good for the speech. I don’t think that’s good for Twitter. But, he owns it, that’s his business, he’ll manage it, I guess, as he sees fit. We’ll see what happens.”
