Empty Bowl Luncheon Returns to Northwest Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — A northwest Alabama nonprofit is bringing back an annual fundraiser to help feed the hungry in three counties.

The Salvation Army Women’s Shoals Auxiliary will again host the Empty Bowl luncheon on Wednesday, April 13 at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center (10 Hightower Place, Florence). Lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and vendors will be on hand to sell baked goods.

In the minds of the beneficiaries of the event, the meal presented will be a bowl of soup, a piece of bread and a bottle of water. A $20 ticket (which can be purchased in advance at the Salvation Army office at 1601 Huntsville Road in Florence or on the day of the event at the conference center) covers soup from a restaurant or a store (many of which are local), bread from the Ladies Auxiliary, and water, as well as a cross or a bowl.

Due to public health concerns, event organizers have said there will be no 2022 lunch shuttles. Additionally, there will be no silent auction, thrift store models or meals on site. All meals will be take-out only.

To help with the influx of take-out meals, there will be a circular order for pre-orders.

More information on the soups available and a form to pre-order meals for four or more people can be found in the Facebook lunch event. 100% of proceeds from the event will go to help feed the hungry in Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties.
