India’s leadership in digital transformation is driven by large-scale innovation, with apps and data at the heart of realizing India’s vision of inclusive development.

India is on the way to becoming a power. One of the most important data capitals in the world in the next 25 years. With over 700 million internet users and very high smartphone penetration, India has one of the largest digitally connected populations in the world. India’s national technology stack serves over a billion people, with technology that ranks among the most advanced and, unsurprisingly, also the most cost competitive.
India’s leadership in digital transformation is driven by large-scale innovation, with apps and data at the heart of realizing India’s vision of inclusive development. There is also enough data to claim that India will become the third largest economy in 2030; with the third largest startup ecosystem and several large unicorns, digital payments in India are expected to reach $10 trillion by 2026.

Accelerated growth: macroeconomic factors

Recognizing this, Microsoft has already started working on building foundational partnerships that expand the pool of talent and opportunity. Anant Maheshwari, president of Microsoft India, recently spoke about these partnerships at the Future Ready Applications Summit.

He said: “Our partnership with Jio aims to empower millions of SMEs nationwide. We have partnered with the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management and are exploring how cloud and innovation can transform the future of public finance management in India. We have also partnered with central government and state governments, enabling them to leverage Azure to build citizen service applications.”

He also highlighted the need to make significant investments in the public cloud and drive adoption in industries such as IT services, BFSI, manufacturing and digital natives.

Drive business growth

Organizations must embed technology into every business process and function. As most businesses understand, doing more with less doesn’t mean working harder or working longer. It involves applying technology to amplify what can be achieved in an organization when you break down silos and transform data into intelligent insights. These can be amplified by cloud-native applications and platforms, creating a competitive advantage for businesses.

For most businesses, the logical first step is migrating and modernizing digital assets to the cloud. This can then be followed by merging teams, processes, and unifying data. Artificial intelligence (AI) models can be leveraged to create collaborative business processes, improve efficiency, and power insights. Most importantly, all digitization journeys must begin and end with security, one of the key benefits of cloud adoption.

Native capability development

At the heart of this shift is developer agility. Developer empowerment is a way to empower organizations to innovate at scale. Modern engineering methods such as DevOps and DevSecOps, trends such as internal sourcing and no low code are going to be central to this acceleration.

These methods pave the way for the applications of the future: cloud-native, intelligent, collaborative and hyper-personalized applications that evolve rapidly. Innovating with agility at scale by accelerating the speed of developers will be a key business imperative.
