Émilienne Malfatto won this Tuesday the Goncourt for the first novel with her book “Que sur toi laments le tigre”. This freelance photojournalist now lives and works between southern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

In this first novel, she immerses herself in today’s rural Iraq, on the banks of the Tigris. A young girl crosses the absolute ban, having a romantic relationship outside of marriage. The boy dies under the bombs, the young girl is pregnant …

Emilienne Malfatto featured among the four finalists alongside Abigail Assor, Olivier Hercend and Dimitri Rouchon-Borie. The latter, a journalist for Le Télégramme in the editorial staff of Saint-Brieuc, had already been awarded the RTBF first novel prize with “The Demon of the hill of wolves”. His work plunges the reader into the crash of a shattered life, that of Duke, raped by his father and who himself becomes a murderer.
