Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, it has been announced.
The 20-year-old, who has risen through the youth ranks since joining the club at the age of nine, made 33 appearances for the first team in a breakthrough campaign last season.
As is club policy, the length of the new contract has not been made public but the news could end speculation linking other clubs to the attacking midfielder.
Recent reports had suggested that Aston Villa offered to sign the England Under-21 international.
Gunners manager Mike Arteta said: “As we all saw last season, Emile is a smart player with excellent abilities.
“His sharpness in the turn and his exceptional vision have already made him a key player for us. His attitude and willingness to learn were also very impressive.
“I know the fans will join us in being delighted that Emile has committed his future to the club.”
Arsenal have also announced that Smith Rowe will wear the No.10 shirt, previously worn by Mesut Ozil.
Senior stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette said after Ozil left to join Fenerbahce that they would like to get the shirt, however, the decision was made to give it to Smith Rowe.
Technical Director Edu said: “It’s great to see another young player evolving in our academy system to become a key part of our first team.
“Emile is a player who represents the future of the club and that is why we gave him the number 10 shirt.”
