Elon Musk Shares This Indian Meme Amid Apple-Open AI Deal
Apple recently announced its partnership with OpenAI at its 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference. The company said it is integrating ChatGPT into experiences on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS through its iOS 18 software. This will allow users to access features of ChatGPT without having to switch from one tool to another. However, SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk said he would ban Apple devices at his companies if the tech giant integrated OpenAI into its operating systems. Amid this, he also shared a popular Indian meme to take a dig at Apple.
Mr. Musk on his X platform (formerly Twitter) to share the meme. It shows a man and a woman sharing coconut water. The image shows how Apple could share data with OpenAI, which could lead to privacy concerns. The image’s header reads: “How Intelligence Works.” Notably, the meme comes from the 2017 Tamil film “Thappattam”.

The meme was shared nine hours ago and has garnered over 39.7 million views and three million likes.
“Elon shares India’s most popular meme,” said one user.
“Tamil memebois got Elon,” one user commented.
A third said: “Tamil memes are taking over the world :-)”
“If this turns out to be true, I will never own an @Apple product again,” one X user added.
“It’s no different than Twitter, Facebook or any other operating system on phones. They stole our data,” one person wrote.
“It’s actually kind of funny and right,” another social media user added.
Apple notably declared CNBC that they use its own artificial intelligence and that its integration with OpenAI is an optional feature. Additionally, OpenAI mentioned on its website: “Privacy protections are built in when accessing ChatGPT in Siri and requests for writing tools are not stored by OpenAI and user IP addresses are masked . Users can also choose to connect their ChatGPT account, which means their data preferences will apply in accordance with ChatGPT’s policies.
Earlier, in reaction to the new deal, Mr Musk said: “This is an unacceptable security breach.” He said “visitors will need to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage,” when visiting his company’s offices.

Apple said it built AI with privacy “at the core” and would use a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing to power these features. “It is patently absurd that Apple is not smart enough to create its own AI, yet is able to guarantee that OpenAI will protect your security and privacy!” »wrote the billionaire on X.
