The US 101st Airborne Division, deployed near the Ukrainian border, would intervene if NATO came under attack, its commanders said.
The US Army’s 101st Airborne Division would not hesitate to enter Ukraine if a conflict erupts between Russia and NATO, CBS News reported Friday citing the unit’s military commanders.
The elite division is currently hosting war games in Romania, near the country’s border with the war-torn state.
Unit commanders told CBS they would be prepared to enter Ukraine if fighting escalated — without specifying what that would entail — or if NATO came under attack. They stressed that their current deployment in Europe, the first since World War II, is “defend NATO territory.”
