Elimay continues Mullins’ dominance | Race News

Elimay gave trainer Willie Mullins his 10th winner at this year’s Cheltenham Festival to complete a fantastic fivefold that day in pursuit of Mrs Paddy Power Mares.

Vice-champion 12 months ago, Elimay qualified for the final stages under Mark Walsh in the colors of JP McManus.

Zambella cut the race to Maid O’Malley, but the race changed color on the straight.

There were four horses with a chance to win last with Elimay (9-4) proving strongest on the hill to score a half length behind Pink Legend. Scarlet And Dove was a nose in third place.

Assistant trainer David Casey, giving his boss a rare run out of press duties, said: “I thought we had a lot of good chances and the horses ran brilliantly all week.

“Everyone knows the race is not easy, we lost Brandy Love the morning of his race so it’s great for the home team when things are going well.

“Elimay is not tall but she is really tough and stays very well. She hasn’t helped Mark much, but she is small.

“It was just her tenacity that did it for her in the end.”
