Eighteen years after becoming the first – and so far only – Ole Miss player to be selected first overall in the NFL Draft, Eli Manning is now giving advice to another Rebels QB who is eyeing the NFL, Matt Corral.

“He told me to be myself, and that’s honestly the best advice I’ve ever received because you don’t really understand that until you’re towards the end of that process,” Corral said during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.

It’s easy to see why Corral sought Manning’s insight. The two played at Ole Miss – Manning is the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, while Corral is third – and as they did with Eli there are close 20 years old, many now believe Corral will be even better as a pro than he was. To college.

“Eli, he was a great communicator when I asked questions,” Corral added. “I just wanted to probe his brain a bit.”

Corral and Manning struck up a relationship as soon as Corral signed up for Ole Miss, and Corral says most of their conversations have been about off-court matters.

It makes sense since he seems to have everything under control. In four seasons with the Rebels, Corral threw for over 8,000 yards, threw for more than twice as many touchdowns as picks (57-23) and added 18 more rushing scores.

He’ll use those stats and, per Manning’s advice, his own authenticity to try to get a team to pick him at the start of this month’s draft.

“It took me a while to be myself in these interviews,” says Corral, currently scheduled to be selected in the first or second round. “Don’t try to make it unauthentic. You want to make it real and show that you’re not just pushing your way through these interviews.”
