Elderly man on daily walk shot in the head, killed in Juniata, Philadelphia police say – CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A neighborhood is rocked after a 76-year-old man was shot and killed while completing his daily morning walk. The shooting occurred Tuesday morning in the 4200 block of L Street in the Juniata neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Neighbors say this crime was particularly cruel given the age of the victim and the way it happened.

“He never left the block, so he was literally going down the alley, down Bristol, L, up L, back to Hunting Park and just going around,” Gianna Cianci said. .

Around 5am on Tuesday morning, police said, a man seen on CCTV interrupted the 76-year-old’s morning ritual.

“It appears the assailant was walking north in the back driveway of Hunting Park Avenue, approached behind this 76-year-old man and shot him once in the back of the neck. He immediately collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene,” the Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector said. says Scott Small.

More than 12 hours after his murder, the police are still looking for this suspect and a motive.

Neighbors say Loi was a loving grandfather and a family man who never hurt anyone.

“The smile on his face takes it all. You never see him in any situation, any altercation. He’s too old for that. He does not speak English. You killed a guy who doesn’t speak English at all. You don’t get any of that,” neighbor Tony Broza said.

“If you commit a murder like this, against an older man walking around his neighborhood, you need help in your head and you need help in your heart,” Nasir Shawqi said.

Candles and flowers now mark the spot where Loi lost her life.

“It’s just hard when bad things happen to good people,” Cianci said. “I know my neighbors definitely feel uncomfortable. It definitely makes you question anyone and everyone.

We are told there was a community meeting in the area on Tuesday where residents discussed this incident and other safety issues.
