Bruno Guimaraes has been described as “the complete package” by manager Eddie Howe, who purred on his signing’s performance in January in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Wolves.
Guimaraes showed plenty of Champions League-level class moments in a win that pushed Newcastle up to 10 points clear of the relegation zone, ending a three-game losing streak.
The win instantly lifted the mood at St James with the home support also able to see their star sign properly in front of their adoring fans for the first time.
Guimaraes is arguably Newcastle’s biggest signing since they became the richest football club in the world, joining French giants Lyon for £35m in January.
But it wasn’t just the fans who were thrilled to see their Brazil international step out into his new home, his manager Howe seemed just as excited as anyone.
“I think they’re going to like it and they already like it to be honest,” Howe said ahead of the win.
“He has that technical flair, but also behind that he has real steel and resilience.
“He’s a winner. I see every day in training he has a good attitude, so I think he’s the complete package.

The Magpies had a busy January window following their takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, but Guimaraes was seen as the biggest takeover of them all due to its huge potential.
Moving to Europe from Athletico Paranaense, Guimares burst onto the scene with a superb display against Juventus in their second game, helping knock the Italian side out of the Champions League, before doing the same against Manchester City.
The 24-year-old didn’t get off to such a quick start in England, however, with four minutes combined in his opening three games before working his way through the line-up.
Howe explained why it took Guimaraes a long time to get into his XI, and also why he will now stick around.
“He’s going to be a mainstay in the team for sure,” Howe explained.
“I think the difficulty is that we continued that winning run with the Joelinton midfielder, [Joe] Willock and [Jonjo] Shelvey and it was hard to break that when we were playing so well.
“But he got his opportunity today, I thought he was great, he gave us a different dimension in there but I’m really excited about what he can do for the team.”
