Earth Day: Youth climate march held at UN Plaza in San Francisco to demand environmental justice

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — An organization that thinks the city of San Francisco ignores some of the health concerns of people of color is hosting its own Earth Day event on Friday.

They march to Union Square for a rally they call Earth Day.

SKY7 will fly over the march when it begins. You can watch live in the video player above from around 10:45 a.m.

The Youth Versus Apocalypse group released a statement that said, in part, “Historically, Earth Day has been a day in San Francisco where places like Golden Gate Park and Crissy Fields are cleaned up and cared for while communities of color low-income areas, such as Bayview Hunters Point and Treasure Island, have been overlooked.”

They call for the cleanup of radioactive and toxic waste in poor neighborhoods of San Francisco.
