Eamonn Holmes mocked mobility scooter online
Eamonn Holmes has revealed he was mocked on social media for using a mobility scooter amid his ongoing health problems.
The GB News Breakfast presenter, 63, explained how he copes with back pain which has limited him in the past and led to him using crutches.
During a recent interview, the star admitted he had trolls on social media commenting on his use of a mobility scooter.
“Well, some people were making fun of me on social media last night,” he began, explaining what the public’s reaction to his declining health had been.
He went on to tell Best magazine: “Oh look Eamonn, he’s in a mobility scooter! » I responded by saying, “I would rather not be there, but how else could I get around?”
“The alternative is I don’t go anywhere, I sit in my chair and work in the office. So, I go out… It’s mentally inspiring to go out.
While discussing his health, he also took stock and said, “Well, I can walk if that’s what you mean (50 steps, to be exact), but I now accept that life is easier with the help of others.
“Moving around on crutches is exhausting. I wish I could walk further, but right now I can’t.
The broadcaster revealed how he sees his future unfolding and explained: “For the short term, it’s having someone with me, to help me.
“Will it last six months? A year? I don’t know but I haven’t lost my need to work. What’s the point of not doing things? I thank God that I can cope mentally… I have a zest for life.
Speaking about what he likes to do to get out of the house, he added: “Some people think I’m fixed, but it looks like that on TV… I like to get out.”
“Going to the cinema is a terrible effort but it is worth it. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was awesome.
Prior to his 2022 surgery, Holmes underwent a double hip replacement in 2016, which he previously said he had been putting off “for years.”
Eamonn is married to Loose Women star Ruth Langsford and the duo presented This Morning’s Friday show until ITV confirmed in November 2020 that the duo would be replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.
The full interview with the broadcaster appears in the new issue of Best, on sale now.
