Dustin Johnson says playing on Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour cost him US Ryder Cup berth

Dustin Johnson claims he would have been selected for this year’s US Ryder Cup team, live Aerial sportsif he hadn’t defected to LIV Golf.

Instead, the two-time major champion finds himself a spectator after previously being part of five American teams. The Ryder Cup will be played at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, from September 29, live on Aerial Sports Golf.

“I would love to be part of the team,” Johnson, 39, said. The Palm Beach post. “But to be honest, I didn’t really play well this year. But did I play well enough to make the team? Yeah.

“I didn’t have the best year. Was it good enough to make the team? I think so.

“If I had played on (the PGA Tour), yes, I would have made the team. Do I think I can help Team USA? Absolutely.”

Johnson, who joined the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Tour in June 2022, was not selected by US captain Zach Johnson despite the former recording five top 10s this season.

He did not perform well in major tournaments, however, with his T-10 result at the US Open being the best of the lot. He posted a T-48 at the Masters, a T-55 at the US PGA and missed the cut at the Open.

“If I had played a little better in the majors, I think I definitely would have had a really good chance of making the team,” Dustin Johnson said.

“But I just struggled a little bit in the majors this year, which happens.”
