Driver, not wearing seatbelt, killed in Ocean Co. NJ crash

Ocean County officials said a man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Sunday evening in Manchester Township.

Police say the accident happened just after 7:30 p.m. on County Road 547, just north of the entrance to Joint Base Lakehurst.

At the scene, cops “observed a 2020 Kia Soul on the roadway with extensive damage. There were also several trees found lying on the roadway.”

The driver, who was not identified in a press release on Monday morning while relatives remained informed, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 547, when the vehicle began to drift onto the dirt shoulder before hitting several trees. The impact with the trees caused severe damage to the vehicle, with multiple airbag deployments. It was also determined that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.
