Drew Barrymore Quits Talk Show After Backlash Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike – Hollywood Life

Drew Barrymore48-year-old pauses popular talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, after receiving backlash for deciding to continue with the new season despite the current WGA and SAG strikes. The actress took to Instagram on Sunday to share a message announcing the change. She also deleted an apology video she posted the day before.

“I have listened to everyone and I am making the decision to suspend the premiere of the series until the end of the strike,” his message read. “I have no words to express my sincerest apologies to everyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who work on the show and who have made it what it is today. “

“We really tried to find our way,” she continued. “And I sincerely hope that a solution will be found very soon for the entire industry.”

Drew’s latest decision to put her show on hold comes after she initially received backlash from some people involved in the film and TV industry when she revealed she was moving forward with filming of the new series of his show. The Writers Guild of America, East took Twitter write this The Drew Barrymore Show was “struck” and that anything written on the show would be “in violation of WGA strike rules.”

After the backlash, Drew was removed as host of the National Book Awards by the Nation Book Foundation. The ceremony was scheduled to take place on November 15, but the organization announced that it would no longer participate in the event due to its decision to continue its talk show. Drew then posted a now-deleted emotional apology video on September 15, giving more details about why she decided to continue the series.

“I don’t think there’s anything I can do or say right now to make this okay,” she began saying in the lengthy video. “I wanted to take ownership of a decision so it wasn’t a PR, protected situation. And I would just take full responsibility for my actions. I know there is nothing I can do to make this acceptable to those with whom it is not okay. I fully accept this. I completely understand this.

“There are so many reasons for this. I just want everyone to know that my intentions were never to upset or hurt anyone. That’s not who I am,” she continued before explaining why she was starting the new season. “Why am I doing this? Well, I certainly couldn’t have expected this kind of attention, and we’re not going to break the rules, and we will respect them,” she explained. “I wanted to do this because like I said, it’s bigger than me. And there are other people’s jobs at stake.”
