Drake is “Way 2 Sexy” for the Grammys.
The Canadian musician, 35, sensationally withdrew his two Grammy nominations from the upcoming 2022 Awards.
Drake was nominated for Best Rap Album for his record “Certified Lover Boy” and Best Rap Performance for his track “Way 2 Sexy”.
When contacted by The Post, representatives for Drake declined to comment. However, an insider close to his camp confirmed to the Post that this was a decision made by Drake himself – and the Grammys have honored his request.
Rapper “Hotline Bling” has already won 4 Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song.
The Grammys are considered the music industry’s most prestigious awards and are voted on by members of the Recording Academy, an elite organization made up of performers, producers and sound engineers.
Drake was one of five artists in each of the categories in which he was nominated. Variety reports that he will not be replaced in any of the categories and that the remaining 4 artists will now compete against each other for each of the prizes.
The news comes after The Weeknd said earlier this year that he was definitely boycotting the Grammy Awards after his album “After Hours” failed to win any 2021 awards nominations.
The Weeknd criticized the Grammys in a tweet, saying, “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the transparency of the industry… “
However, the 31-year-old star has now been nominated for 2 Grammys at the upcoming 2022 Awards. He received a nod in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for his vocals on Kanye West’s track “Hurricane”.
He also received nods for this work on West’s album “Donda” and Doja Cat’s record “Planet Her”.
Although it is theorized that he will not be on the show – scheduled for January 31 of next year – The Weeknd did not withdraw any of those nominations on Monday night.
