Paul Waring equaled the course record to open a two-stroke lead after a low-scoring opening day at the DP World Tour’s Cazoo Classic.

Waring produced an eagle-birdie finish to card a brilliant nine under 63 at Hillside in Southport, propelling him past compatriot Garrick Porteous at the top of the leaderboard.

The Englishman birdied on three of his first five holes and canceled a bogey on the sixth by rolling 20ft on the eighth to reach the 33-turn, with a two-putt gain at the par-5 11th and 25ft at 13 taking it at five sous.
